SCiB™ is used in the hybrid propulsion system for “TWILIGHT EXPRESS MIZUKAZE”
SCiB™ is adopted for hybrid propulsion system of TWILIGHT EXPRESS MIZUKAZE which is operated by West Japan Railway Company starting June 17, 2017. TWILIGHT EXPRESS MIZUKAZE is a new luxury sleeper train that elegantly captures the concept of
“a hotel moving through the beautiful Japanese landscape – superior quality with a touch of nostalgia.” The train is driven by electric power which is generated by a diesel engine and assisted by SCiB™. During braking, the regenerative energy is stored in SCiB™ and is later used for motor assist during acceleration. This leads to increased energy efficiency and fuel economy, thus contributing to a high environmental performance.

Toshiba Delivers Emergency-Running Battery System for Tokyo Metro Ginza Line
Installation of the battery storage system enables to carry the passengers to the nearest station in emergency power loss. Additionally, without using the outer grid, the system manages to roll a train out from the rail yard.

Traction energy storage system (TESS) for efficiently using electricity generated by decelerating trains
In order to efficiently use electricity, Tobu Railway utilizes TESS, which stores traction energy generated by trains as they decelerate entering a station and later releases that stored energy when trains accelerate leaving the station.

Actio's battery-driven drilling locomotive operates with SCiB™.
SCiB™ is used because the new locomotive provides flat torque characteristics as well as a considerably higher pull-in torque than a conventional locomotive.

Shin-Tomoe's battery powered locomotive operates with SCiB™.
This locomotive is used to towing the freight car for tunnel construction.
This new system achieved to shorten charging time dramatically, and also improved charging efficiency of regenerative power in comparison to conventional battery system.
In addition, it is free from maintenance such as distilled water refills or ventilation during charging.
